Hamirpur:

What began as a routine reprimand over watching cartoons turned into an anxious few hours for a family in Himachal Pradesh’s Hamirpur district after a seven-year-old girl left home unnoticed and went missing.

The incident took place in a village under the Bhoranj area. Police said the child’s mother, who was at home with her three children, asked her eldest daughter to stop watching cartoons and have her meal. The scolding reportedly upset the girl, who quietly slipped out of the house while her mother was busy with household work.

When the child did not return for a long time, the family grew worried and alerted the Bhoranj police station. Given the age of the child, police treated the matter with urgency and immediately launched a search operation.

Teams scanned CCTV footage from nearby locations and questioned locals to trace the girl’s movements. After nearly four hours of sustained efforts, the police found the child about 5 km away from her home.

The girl was safely reunited with her parents, who expressed relief and thanked the police for their prompt response. Superintendent of Police Balbir Singh said the swift action and timely use of surveillance footage helped locate the child within a short span, preventing any untoward incident.
