Advocate Viswa Chakshu, BJP’s state media co-incharge, highlighted the plight of Bhagwan Das Sharma, a resident of Suunhi in Bargra police station area of Kangra district, who has been struggling without pension since months. He said the government’s failure has forced the elderly man to depend on others for medicines, ration, and daily needs.

Chakshu alleged that this is not an isolated case, but part of a larger crisis across districts including Kangra, Mandi, Una, Sirmaur, Chamba, and Hamirpur, where senior citizens are facing long delays in pension disbursement. “Files are gathering dust in offices, excuses of technical glitches are being made, and helpless pensioners are running from panchayats to welfare offices while the government remains asleep,” he charged.

He further said that the Congress government’s social security schemes have remained confined to paper and advertisements, with no accountability or monitoring on the ground.

Issuing a stern warning, Chakshu declared that if pending pension cases are not resolved immediately and responsible officials are not punished, the BJP will launch a decisive agitation “from the streets to the Assembly” against what he termed the government’s “anti-elderly attitude.”

“The dignity, self-respect, and livelihood of senior citizens cannot be compromised. The Sukhu government will have to face political consequences for this insensitivity,” he added.
