Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur addressed the “Asmita Women City League” and Women’s Honour Program organised by Himachal Yogasana Sports District Hamirpur at Lambloo Ground, Hamirpur. He lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s unparalleled contributions to promoting yoga and empowering women across India.

Global Recognition for Yoga and Women’s Empowerment
Thakur highlighted that within six months of assuming office, PM Modi had June 21 declared as International Yoga Day by the United Nations General Assembly, with support from 177 countries. He credited Modi for securing recognition for yoga as a sport through the Indian Olympic Association, boosting youth participation and strengthening national health and economy.

He also praised initiatives like:

  • Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam: Ensuring 33% reservation for women in legislatures
  • Formation of 10,000+ FPOs for women entrepreneurs
  • Mission to create 4 crore “Lakhpati Didis”
Calling these efforts “milestones in women’s empowerment,” Thakur emphasized their transformative impact.

🚫 Criticism of State Government’s Policies and Governance
Thakur accused the current Himachal Pradesh government, led by CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, of failing to uphold its promises. He claimed:

  • No guarantees were made during his tenure, yet pensions were extended to citizens aged 60+ without income limits
  • Schemes like Grihini Suvidha Yojana, Shagun Yojana, and Beti Hai Anmol were launched to support women
  • Free electricity and water, and healthcare through Himcare were provided without political pledges

He alleged that the present government has discontinued these schemes while falsely claiming fulfillment of guarantees. Referring to recent exit polls in Bihar, he said the public has already responded to such claims.

⚖️ Concerns Over Law and Order
Thakur expressed grave concern over deteriorating law and order in Himachal Pradesh, citing two recent murders in Hamirpur, including one involving a son killing his mother. He warned of rising drug abuse and unchecked criminal activity, particularly in the CM’s home district.

🗓️ BJP to Protest on December 1
He announced that the BJP will gherao the Vidhan Sabha on December 1 to demand accountability from the government on law and order issues.

🚫 Allegations of Political Vendetta
Thakur condemned the denial of permission for the women’s honour event, calling it a reflection of the government’s mindset. He accused the administration of targeting Hamirpur MLA Ashish Sharma’s family with politically motivated cases and warned that power is never permanent.

🎉 Personal Note and Community Appreciation
Expressing gratitude for the warm reception in Hamirpur, Thakur extended birthday wishes to Swati Sharma, wife of MLA Ashish Sharma, and praised her dedication to social service. He said he felt privileged to advance PM Modi’s mission through this event.
