Hamirpur:
A 40-year-old woman from Hamirpur district in Himachal Pradesh, who was brutally assaulted last week, succumbed to her injuries at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh on Friday (November 7, 2025) night.
The victim had been battling for her life for five days after an alleged attack by a 14-year-old boy.
The incident occurred on November 3 when the woman was on her way to cut grass in the fields near the Hamirpur Sadar police station area.
Attacked with sickle, stick
According to preliminary police reports, the minor boy allegedly attempted to sexually assault her. When the woman resisted, a struggle ensued.
Enraged by her resistance, the accused reportedly launched a vicious attack, brutally assaulting her with a sickle and a stick. A villager discovered the woman in a critically injured and bleeding state and immediately informed her family.
She was first rushed to the Medical College in Hamirpur for initial treatment. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was later referred to the advanced trauma centre at PGIMER in Chandigarh.
Crucial evidence recovered on spot
Investigators at the scene recovered crucial evidence, including the alleged weapons of crime — a sickle and a stick — along with a pen and pieces of a broken scale.
Confirming the tragic development, Hamirpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Bhagat Singh Thakur stated, “The woman undergoing treatment at PGI Chandigarh has unfortunately passed away.”
The police have registered a case, and with the victim’s death, the charges are expected to be intensified. The juvenile accused is currently in custody as the investigation continues.
