MANDI: Himachal Pradesh has recorded its second confirmed case of Covid-19, this time involving a female employee at a private company located in the Bhatian area of the Nalagarh sub-division. The first case in the state was reported earlier from Sirmaur district, also involving a woman.
According to health officials, the Nalagarh-based employee recently began experiencing symptoms resembling a viral infection, including cold and congestion. Concerned about her condition, she visited a private hospital in Nalagarh where she tested positive for Covid-19.
Following the diagnosis, hospital authorities promptly informed the Block Medical Officer (BMO) of Nalagarh. Dr Kaviraj Negi, the BMO, confirmed that the woman had been placed in isolation as a precautionary measure.
What has raised concern among health officials is the absence of any recent travel history linked to the patient. This has led authorities to suspect possible local transmission. Dr Negi stated that as of now, no samples had been collected from the patient’s close contacts, as no specific guidelines have yet been issued by the state government or the health department regarding such measures.
Senior health officials have been briefed about the situation and further steps will be taken in line with their instructions.
In the meantime, local authorities have issued an alert and are urging the public to remain vigilant. Employees at the company where the woman worked have been advised to get tested immediately if they exhibit symptoms like cold or cough. Additionally, the public is being urged to follow safety protocols, including wearing masks and avoiding crowded areas.
Dr Negi reassured residents that there is no cause for panic but emphasized the importance of not taking the situation lightly. “We appeal to the public to follow all necessary precautions. Avoiding carelessness is key to keeping the situation under control,” he said.
