The Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) has announced the commencement of its bus services on the Leh-Delhi route from June 8.
The route, known for its breathtaking mountain roads and snowy landscapes, offers an exciting journey for both tourists and regular travellers. The buses will operate from the Keylong depot and cover a distance of approximately 1,026 km, with a fare of Rs 1,740 for the entire route.
Last year, the bus service from Delhi to Leh via Manali and Sarchu began on June 15. However, this year, the service is starting a week earlier. The journey takes around 30 hours, providing an opportunity to explore Leh-Ladakh, as well as the states of Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and other parts of Himachal Pradesh. Travellers will be treated to breathtaking views of scenic passes such as Baralacha (16,500 feet), Nakilla (15,547 feet), Tanglangla (17,480 feet) and Lachung Pass (16,616 feet).
The bus service on the Leh-Delhi route was temporarily suspended in September 2022 but is now being reintroduced. Prior to 2022, the bus service to Leh usually started in July. A Keylong depot official said the HRTC had resumed bus services on all long routes except Delhi-Leh.
To ensure a safe and comfortable journey, the HRTC has assigned three drivers and two operators for the Leh-Delhi route. The first driver will drive from Leh to Keylong, followed by the second driver from Keylong to Sundernagar. The final leg of the journey, from Sundernagar to Delhi, will be managed by the third driver. Two operators will be present, one from Leh to Keylong and the other from Keylong to Delhi, ensuring efficient operations throughout the trip.
