BJP holds silent black ribbon march in Mandi to protest ex-PM Indira Gandhi’s 1975 Emergency

MANDI: The BJP marked June 25 as ‘Black Day’ nationwide, condemning the Congress for the Emergency imposed on this day in 1975.
At Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, BJP members held a silent protest march from the historic Seri Manch, wearing black ribbons as a symbol of dissent.
Later, addressing a press conference, Himachal Pradesh BJP vice-president Payal Behl Vaidya criticised the Congress and the government of that time for imposing the Emergency. She argued that the Congress misled the public with promises of better days while Indira Gandhi, to secure her position, plunged the country into turmoil. She called this action deeply unjust.
Vaidya further alleged that the Congress had consistently deceived the public, a practice that continues even today. She accused the Congress of spreading misinformation about constitutional changes during the recent Lok Sabha elections, despite the party itself having amended the Constitution numerous times without transparency. “Each attempt by the Congress to corner the BJP with false pretexts has failed,” she asserted.
Vaidya concluded by noting that the electorate had rejected theCongress and renewed their faith in Prime Minister Modi. She criticised the Congress for clinging to a 70-year-old mentality, which she believes is “detrimental to the nation’s progress”.
