SHIMLA:
In a ceremony blending tradition and elegance, Himachal Pradesh PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh, son of the late six-time Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, tied the knot with Amreen Kaur on Monday (September 22, 2025) in Chandigarh. The wedding took place through an Anand Karaj ceremony at the Sector 11 gurdwara.

Amreen, daughter of Jotinder Singh Sekhon and Opinder Kaur of Chandigarh, now steps into the public eye not just as the wife of a prominent politician, but also as the next symbolic ‘Rani’ of the erstwhile princely state of Rampur-Bushahr, one of Himachal Pradesh’s most influential royal lineages.

This is Vikramaditya Singh’s second marriage. He was previously married to Sudarshana Singh of Rajasthan in March 2019. However, the couple divorced in 2024. His marriage to Amreen Kaur marks a new chapter in both his personal and political life.

Who is Dr Amreen Kaur Sekhon?

Elegant, accomplished and largely away from the political limelight until now, Dr Amreen Sekhon brings her own academic and professional stature to the alliance. She holds dual Master’s degrees in English and Psychology, and earned a PhD in Psychology. She currently serves as an Assistant Professor at Panjab University, Chandigarh.

Sources close to the couple say that Amreen and Vikramaditya have been friends for several years. This is her first marriage and she is believed to be around 35 years old.

Vikramaditya Singh: Royal roots, political clout

Vikramaditya Singh, who is the ‘Raja’ of erstwhile princely state Rampur-Bushahr, is no stranger to public life. As the scion of the Rampur-Bushahr royal family, he carries forward the legacy of his father, Virbhadra Singh, who ruled the state’s political landscape for decades. His mother, Pratibha Singh, also called ‘Rajmata’, is the current Himachal Pradesh Congress President and three-term former MP from Mandi.

Educated at Bishop Cotton School, Shimla, and Hansraj College, Delhi University, Vikramaditya later pursued a Master’s in History from Delhi. He officially entered politics in 2013 and served as president of the Himachal Pradesh Youth Congress. He was elected an MLA from the Shimla Rural constituency in 2017 and again in 2022.

In the current Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led government, Vikramaditya holds key portfolios of Public Works and Urban Development. Earlier, he also handled Youth Services and Sports. He contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from the high-profile Mandi constituency, where he faced BJP’s Kangana Ranaut but did not succeed.
