What’s Himachal CID doing, asks BJP MLA Trilok Jamwal after being blamed by Bumber Thakur for attack

MANDI: Senior BJP leader and Bilaspur MLA Trilok Jamwal has launched a scathing attack on the Himachal Pradesh government following a deadly assault on former MLA Bumber Thakur.

Jamwal, whom Bumber accused of being behind the attack, held the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led Congress government responsible for the deteriorating law and order situation in Himachal Pradesh and demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the attack.

Addressing a press conference after leading a protest rally of BJP workers in Bilaspur, Jamwal expressed deep concern over the rising criminal activities in the region.

Jamwal also slammed the Intelligence and CID departments for their failure to detect such criminal activities. “When such a massive shooting incident took place, where were the intelligence agencies? Why didn’t they get any information about these activities,” he questioned.

He submitted a memorandum to the Governor through the Deputy Commissioner, urging swift action against the attackers and highlighting the growing influence of mafias in Bilaspur.

Says law and order has collapsed under Sukhu government

Jamwal strongly condemned the brutal attack on Bumber Thakur, where three to four attackers barged into his house and attempted to kill him. He termed the incident as shameful for a peaceful state like Himachal Pradesh and raised serious questions about the failure of the police and administration.

“With the arrival of the Sukhu government, law and order in Himachal Pradesh has completely collapsed. The situation in Bilaspur is even worse. Criminals are roaming freely and the police have surrendered before the mafia,” Jamwal remarked.

Alleges Bilaspur in grip of drug, mining, contract mafia

Jamwal alleged that Bilaspur was currently dominated by drug mafia, mining mafia and contract killers, while the police and administration have become helpless.

He cited a recent incident where the plant head of ACC factory at Barmana was stopped by goons between Barmana and Ghaghas and was blackened at gunpoint.

He criticised the Chief Minister’s casual attitude, saying, “When I raised this issue in the Assembly, the Chief Minister dismissed it, calling the pistol used in the attack a ‘toy gun’. If the government treats such serious incidents lightly, the condition of law and order will only worsen.”

Jamwal accused the police of negligence in previous shooting incidents in Bilaspur and questioned why the masterminds behind these crimes have not been identified yet.

He referred to a case where a person was shot outside the court while coming to testify, and Bumber Thakur’s son was found involved.

However, despite being in jail for two months, the investigation failed to reveal who brought the shooters and who funded the attack.

“If the police had conducted an impartial investigation in earlier cases, this situation would not have arisen today. The police and administration must explain why they never tried to uncover the real culprits behind these incidents,” Jamwal said.

Issues ultimatum to police

Jamwal warned the police to arrest the attackers by tomorrow, failing which the BJP, along with the local business community, will enforce a complete shutdown of Bilaspur on Monday.

He emphasised that the ongoing gang war in Bilaspur must be brought to an end and the real culprits behind such violent incidents should be exposed and punished.
