15th murder in 50 days

Himachal Pradesh has witnessed its 15th murder in just 50 days of the year 2025, with the discovery of an unidentified woman’s body under a culvert in Una district.

The police suspect the woman, aged between 25 and 30, was raped and then murdered, with her body discarded at the crime scene. This latest murder has raised serious concerns over the rising number of violent crimes in the state.

Face disfigured, body decomposed

The body was discovered early Tuesday morning by local villagers near the Asha Devi temple on the Ambota road within the Gagret police’s jurisdiction.

While cutting grass in the forest, they were overwhelmed by a foul smell and, upon investigating, found the body of a woman lying naked, with her face severely disfigured. Insects were crawling on her decomposing body.

The police confirmed the gruesome discovery after arriving at the scene. The victim’s hands were adorned with red bangles and green nail polish was visible on her fingers.

This has led authorities to believe she may be from Punjab as local residents did not recognise her. The police are working to identify the woman and gather evidence to piece together the circumstances of her death.
