Shot at on Holi, Himachal Congress leader Bumber Thakur blames BJP MLA Jamwal for attack

MANDI: Former Congress MLA Bumber Thakur, who was injured after being fired upon by four assailants at his official residence in Bilaspur on Holi, has accused Bilaspur BJP MLA Trilok Jamwal of masterminding the incident.

Bumber Thakur alleged that the attack was a well-planned conspiracy to eliminate him for raising his voice against the growing chitta mafia in Bilaspur.

Speaking from his hospital bed at IGMC-Shimla, Bumber Thakur said, “I exposed the illegal drug trade flourishing in Bilaspur and demanded action against those involved. Since then, I have been on their target. This attack was carried out with the support of BJP MLA Trilok Jamwal. Without his backing, these criminals wouldn’t dare to shoot me in broad daylight.”

On the occasion of Holi, unknown assailants opened fire on Bumber Thakur while he was meeting his supporters at home.

Trilok Jamwal addressed the media and termed as “baseless” the allegations levelled by Bumber and his son Ishaan.

Ex-MLA claims shooters practised in forest

Bumber Thakur sustained a bullet injury in his leg, while his personal security officer (PSO) was shot in the waist and leg. Both were rushed to the hospital and while Bumber Thakur is stable, his PSO is undergoing treatment at AIIMS-Bilaspur.

The former MLA revealed that a month before the attack, shooters were practising in the nearby forest to target him.
Empty cartridges were recovered from the spot and the police arrested the main accused. However, the key shooter from Haryana, who executed the attack, remains absconding.

“The attack was planned in Haryana. Twentyfive empty cartridges were recovered from the spot after the firing at my house. If the government fails to act now, they will kill me tomorrow.”

Attack captured on CCTV, but assailants yet to be arrested

The entire incident was captured on CCTV, showing the assailants firing directly at Thakur as he sat on a chair. The footage has now become crucial evidence in the police investigation.

However, Bumber Thakur’s supporters and Congress leaders are calling this a political conspiracy and demanding the immediate arrest of the absconding shooter and action against Trilok Jamwal.
