Panic in Himachal as missile debris found on Kangra road, fell as India foiled Pakistan attack

Kangra: Tensions escalated late Thursday (May 8, 2025) night as a fragment of a missile, reportedly intercepted by the Indian Army mid-air, was discovered near the Attahada Bridge in Indora constituency of Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh.

This comes in the wake of Operation Sindoor, under which India continues to respond forcefully to cross-border aggression from Pakistan.

The missile, believed to be one of eight fired by Pakistan targeting Punjab cities, was destroyed in the air by Indian forces based in Pathankot.

Troops deployed at strategic locations across Himachal

However, one of its fragments fell near Attahada Bridge, causing panic in surrounding villages. The authorities swiftly sealed the area and no injuries have been reported so far. A senior police official said the Army was immediately alerted.

In response to the aerial threat and the ongoing military action, security across Himachal Pradesh has been significantly ramped up.
In the state capital Shimla, paramilitary and police forces have been deployed at high-visibility locations such as The Ridge and Mall Road.

In the border district of Chamba, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Himachal police personnel have taken positions at key checkposts and outposts.

Security personnel have been instructed to wear bulletproof gear during vehicle checks, with teams operating in pairs — one conducting searches while the other remains on alert with a rifle.

Army coordination and civil preparedness under scrutiny

Authorities have made it clear that any suspicious activity must be reported directly to district police heads. Special Police Officers (SPOs) are also involved in the intensified patrolling in sensitive border regions, particularly near Langera checkpost and Sanghani police outpost.

The discovery of missile debris so close to civilian habitation has raised alarms over the spread of hostilities into border-adjacent territories.
However, state and military officials maintain that coordinated efforts between defence forces and civil administration have prevented any casualties.
