Subhash Mahajan
Chamba
The world‑famous Manimahesh Yatra in Chamba district is set to commence on September 4 and will continue until September 19, coinciding with the period from Krishna Janmashtami to Radhashtami. The district administration has intensified preparations to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of this annual pilgrimage to the sacred Manimahesh Lake near Bharmaur.
Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repswal stated that mandatory registration has been introduced this year, with a cap of 5,000 pilgrims per day. The measure aims to regulate crowd flow, enhance safety, and provide better facilities along the pilgrimage route.
Heli‑Taxi Service: To facilitate devotees, heli‑taxi services will be available, with bookings opening on August 25. The tender process for the service has already been completed.
Facilities for Pilgrims: During the Yatra, pilgrims will have access to temporary shelters, langars (community kitchens), medical camps, and mule/horse services along the trekking route. The administration is also repairing damaged sections of the Chamba–Bharmaur National Highway to ensure smooth travel.
Track Repairs: Last year’s heavy rains had damaged portions of the trekking path. The administration has set a target to restore these sections before the Yatra begins, ensuring safe passage for devotees.
Safety Advisory: Authorities have appealed to pilgrims to strictly follow weather advisories and official guidelines. Devotees are urged to avoid taking risks during adverse weather conditions and to cooperate with the administration for a safe and orderly pilgrimage.
Emergency Helplines: In case of emergencies, pilgrims can contact the helpline at 98166‑98166 or the toll‑free number 1077.
Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repswal emphasized that the administration is committed to making the Manimahesh Yatra safe, organized, and successful, and sought the cooperation of all devotees in maintaining discipline and cleanliness during the pilgrimage.
