Dharamshala, known for its spiritual and scenic beauty, is now emerging as an educational hub, thanks to the tireless efforts of Dr Rishad Mohammad, fondly known as ‘Khan Sir’.
His journey began in 2012 with only two teachers, a rented room and plastic chairs at Rs 200 per month, but his vision was grand — to provide quality education to underprivileged students and help them become doctors.
What started as a small coaching initiative soon became a movement. Dr Rishad believed that financial constraints should not come in the way of a student’s dreams. While regular students were charged only Rs 1,000 for coaching, underprivileged students were taught free of cost.
Over the years, his dedication turned into an inspiring success story, transforming the lives of thousands of students.
The institute’s first breakthrough came in 2014 when Sunil Thakur from Chamba cracked NEET and secured admission in MBBS. This was just the beginning of a journey that saw exponential success in the following years.
In 2015, three students became doctors, followed by four students each in 2016 and 2017. The numbers surged in 2018 when 15 students secured admission in medical colleges and by 2019, 25 students cleared NEET.
The upward trend continued as 30 students became doctors in 2020 and 2021 saw a record-breaking 33 selections in MBBS. The institute maintained its momentum with 27 successful medical admissions in 2022 and in 2023, more than 35 students passed NEET.
Today, Guru Study Centre is not just a coaching institute but a beacon of hope for students from economically weaker backgrounds. Many of its students have gone on to secure government jobs, further solidifying its impact.
Looking ahead, Dr Rishad has set an ambitious goal — to educate 5,000 students in the next five years by expanding the institute into a full-fledged educational hub with hostel facilities.
His journey proves that with passion, dedication and a vision, no dream is too big. From a small rented room to producing over 100 doctors, the Guru Study Centre has rewritten the rules of education, making quality learning accessible to those who need it most.
