Under the directions of the Principal Commissioner of Income Tax-1, Chandigarh, Smt. Shalini Bhargava Kaushal, IRS, and the guidance of the Commissioner of Income Tax, Shimla Range Shimla, Sh. Sridhar Dora, IRS, the Income Tax Office, Dalhousie organized a comprehensive Income Tax Awareness Camp today at ITC, Fortune, Dalhousie to sensitize stakeholders on the key provisions, objectives, and transition framework of the New Income Tax Act, 2025. The camp was specifically conducted for members of the Hotel Association along with esteemed assessees of the region, with the aim of promoting clarity, preparedness, and smooth compliance under the new legislative regime.
The proceedings began with a welcome address by Sh. Vinit Kumar, the Income Tax Officer, Dalhousie, who outlined the purpose of the camp and the department’s outreach initiative. This was followed by a detailed PowerPoint presentation on the New Income Tax transition. The presentation systematically covered the structural changes introduced in the New Income Tax Act, 2025, including revised tax slabs and rates, updated definitions, rationalized exemptions and deductions, simplified compliance and filing procedures, digital assessment mechanisms, and specific timelines for transition. Particular emphasis was placed on issues relevant to the hospitality sector, such as treatment of business income, presumptive taxation provisions, TDS/TCS implications, and record-keeping requirements.
Smt. Shalini Bhargava Kaushal, IRS, Principal Commissioner of Income Tax-1, Chandigarh, graced the occasion as the “Chief Guest” and addressed the gathering. In her keynote address, she explained the rationale behind the New Income Tax Act, 2025, stressing its focus on simplification, taxpayer-centricity, and reduced litigation. She underscored the importance of voluntary compliance, urged businesses and professionals to update their systems in line with the new requirements, and assured continued support from the department during the transition period. She also called for constructive engagement between taxpayers and the administration to address practical challenges.
The session witnessed active participation from members. Several queries were raised on topics such as capital gains treatment, carry-forward of losses, applicability to partnership firms, and transition of past assessments and the Chief Guest provided clarifications and assured individualized assistance where required.
The camp concluded with a formal Vote of Thanks. The departmental vote of thanks was delivered by Sh. Vinit Kumar, the Income Tax Officer, Dalhousie, expressing gratitude to the Chief Guest, participants, and organizing team for their contribution to the success of the event. The officer reaffirmed the commitment of the department to continued taxpayer facilitation, outreach, and responsive grievance redressal as the New Income Tax Act, 2025 comes into effect.
The participants appreciated the Income Tax Department’s initiative in organizing the awareness camp at Dalhousie, acknowledged the clarity provided on the New Income Tax Act, 2025, and affirmed their commitment to extend full cooperation in ensuring compliance and disseminating information to its member.
