A Himachal Roadways Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus narrowly avoided a major disaster when its brakes failed and it rammed into a house on the Sujanpur-Tihra road in Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh.
According to information, the incident occurred near Sujanpur, just 500 metres from the town, during the bus’ regular morning route.
The bus, carrying 30 passengers, had departed from Dhail at 7.10 am and was scheduled to reach Sujanpur by 9 am. However, at a sharp turn close to its destination, the driver lost control due to a sudden brake failure. Acting swiftly, the driver steered the bus into a house to bring it to a halt, successfully preventing the vehicle from veering into a potentially more dangerous situation.
All passengers escaped unharmed and no injuries were reported. The house sustained minor damage in the collision.
Local residents praised the driver’s quick thinking, which averted a possible tragedy. The authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the brake failure and ensure the safety of other vehicles in the HRTC fleet.
