MANDI: Rajban village, part of Dhamchyan panchayat in Padhar sub-division of Mandi district, has been declared a danger zone following a cloudburst that hit the area on July 31. The disaster claimed the lives of nine residents, injured two others and left one person missing when three homes were destroyed.

The villagers are now desperate to leave, describing their once peaceful village as a “cremation ground”. Many are living in fear, unwilling to remain in their homes after witnessing such devastation. Shyam Lal, Naresh Kumar, Jeet Singh and Saju Ram, among other villagers, have voiced their fears and are appealing to the government to provide them with land in a safer area.

Some villagers own land in Terang village, located 3 km away, but without a road, it is impossible to relocate there. They are urging the government to construct a road to Terang, which would allow them to move and rebuild their lives in a safer environment.

In response to the crisis, Vikramaditya Singh, Minister for Public Works and Urban Development, recently visited the village to assess the situation. He assured residents of the government’s full support and promised to expedite efforts to address their concerns.

Vikramaditya has committed to raising the issue of road access and relocation with the government and district administration, with the aim of providing immediate relief to the affected villagers.

As they await government action, the people of Rajban are hopeful for a swift resolution that will allow them to leave behind the constant threat of natural disasters and start anew.
