Shimla: The fourth day of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly budget session on Thursday (March 13, 2025) witnessed chaos as BJP legislators accused the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government of discrimination in budget allocation. The uproar led to loud sloganeering, followed by a walkout by the opposition BJP from the House.

The disruption began when Hamirpur BJP MLA Ashish Sharma questioned whether funds were disbursed to women’s groups in Dehra Assembly constituency through Kangra Bank.

Ashish demanded details on the number of women’s groups that received financial assistance. However, when Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri failed to provide a response, the BJP members protested and eventually walked out of the House. Despite the commotion, Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania did not officially record the walkout.

BJP MLA raises concern over development fund allocation

Jogindernagar BJP MLA Prakash Rana also raised concerns about the delay in the release of MLA Area Development Fund. He claimed that treasury allocations had been stalled for seven months, which was an unprecedented situation.

Responding to the allegation, Deputy CM Agnihotri Agnihotri clarified, “You have not submitted the required recommendations to the Deputy Commissioner. Unless the proper proposals are sent, the funds cannot be released.”

The Jogindernagar MLA said such delays had only occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic and disaster relief efforts.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu was attending the Holi festival in Sujanpur at the time, leaving Deputy CM Agnihotri to respond on his behalf in the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha.
