The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) today inaugurated a Youth Disaster Volunteer Training Program at the Youth Hostel in Dalhousie, aimed at equipping local youth with essential skills for disaster response and community-level relief operations.
The week-long training, scheduled from November 3 to November 9, 2025, brings together 64 volunteers who will receive hands-on instruction in first aid, search and rescue, fire safety, and emergency relief techniques. The initiative is part of a broader effort to build a resilient and responsive community capable of assisting during natural or man-made disasters.
Addressing the participants, Sumit Gupta, an official from the DDMA, emphasized the vital role of “Disaster Mitras” as frontline responders. “Disaster Mitras are the most crucial link in society during emergencies. Their support can help save lives and protect property while assisting the administration in critical moments,” he said.
The training is being conducted by a team of expert instructors, and includes both theoretical sessions and practical demonstrations. The program concluded its opening day with a vote of thanks delivered by the District Disaster Management Officer, who acknowledged the enthusiasm of the volunteers and the commitment of the organizing team.
This initiative reflects the growing emphasis on community-based disaster preparedness in Himachal Pradesh, empowering youth to act swiftly and responsibly in times of crisis.
