2 terrorists killed in Baramulla encounter; voting for 1 J&K seat underway

Amid the ongoing voting for the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir, a key security operation unfolded as security forces engaged in an encounter with suspected terrorists in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir. The encounter resulted in the killing of two terrorists even as a search operation has been going on to hunt down the suspected third militant.

During the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections 2024, Jammu seat of Jammu and Kashmir is going to the polls. Udhampur constituency of the union territory had voted during the opening phase of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 on April 19.

The encounter had started in Nowpora area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla on Thursday (April 25, 2024) where security forces, including the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army and the CRPF, launched a joint operation based on intelligence indicating the presence of two terrorists in the area.

Reinforcements sought at night
According to a senior police official, the encounter commenced when the terrorists opened fire at the search party, prompting the security forces to retaliate. With the onset of night, additional reinforcements were deployed in the area to prevent any potential advantage the darkness might offer to the militants. Measures, including the deployment of large searchlights and sealing entry and exit points, were implemented to ensure effective operations.

Civilian sustain bullet injury
During the exchange of fire, a civilian was struck by a bullet at the location of the encounter. Named Farooq Ahmad Dar, the civilian sustained the bullet wound to his right shoulder. He was rushed to a local hospital for treatment and his condition is reported to be stable, according to officials.
