Disqualified Himachal Pradesh Congress MLA from Dharamshala Sudhir Sharma has penned a lengthy note in Hindi on his Facebook handle, describing how he fell apart with Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and the way the party high command preferred to allegedly turn a blind eye towards his humiliation.
A little after Sudhir Sharma went public with his grievances, the Congress removed him as the AICC secretary. The order was issued by AICC general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal on behalf of party president Mallikarjun Kharge.
Sudhir Sharma is among six rebel Congress MLAs disqualified from the Vidhan Sabha for allegedly violating a party whip on voting on the Budget.
In his Facebook letter, Sudhir wrote, “There is a verse in the Bhagavad Gita whose meaning is: “Tolerating injustice is as much a crime as committing injustice. It is your duty to fight injustice. Today, this verse has become the basis of our struggle, our decision, the steps taken by us and this verse has also given us strength.”
“Dear people of Himachal, my social concern, my commitment to development and always standing ahead for the public welfare is in my blood and has been inherited by me. This passion has been given to me by the Sanatan culture and the Shiva land in which I was born. My late father Pandit Sant Ram ji continued to follow the path of truth throughout his life. He always kept the flag of self-respect flying high. Baijnath’s people always stood with him like a rock, rising above party politics because he had become ‘kundan’ after being tempered by struggle. The top leadership and high command of the party also approved everything he said. This was the leadership of that era which knew how to respect its hardworking leaders and workers. Used to listen to him. Recognised their struggle and their dedication.
“The top leadership of that period did not turn a blind eye like the present leadership. He did not humiliate those who told the truth but gave priority to their services towards the party and knew how to respect their feelings.
“Where has the situation reached today? I like candour and honesty. The inner strength to stand with the public was inherited from my father. At the same time, this lesson was also learned from him that never bow down before injustice and stand firm with your chest held high. The mountain people are emotional people who follow principles and whatever lessons they get, they make them a part of their life throughout their lives. This learning has settled in every pore of my mind and the knowledge of Bhagavad Gita always keeps me energetic. That is why I have started my talk with a verse from Bhagavad Gita.
“Friends, the high command may have put a blindfold on how hard we worked day and night to bring the Congress government to power in the state, but it is not hidden from you all. Our struggle is not hidden. Our tenacity, renunciation and sacrifice are not hidden. We have seen all types of phases in politics. Starting from your student days, you have continuously progressed with everyone’s love, support and trust and have always kept the development of the area and public interest paramount. Standing on the front line, he fought for the interest of the state. Didn’t give priority to flattering to get a berth. He did not do politics of licking the soles, but when he saw injustice being done to the residents of the area, instead of giving preference to political profit or loss, he raised his voice against injustice even while in the government. The public knows very well that I have been in favour of development… I have stood with the sentiments of the people. I have never lagged behind in challenging th…
