The CSIR SMART VILLAGE Mission is driving grassroots development in Janakpur, Raisen, advancing the Government of India’s “Viksit Bharat @2047” vision. As part of this initiative, experts from the CSIR–Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology (CSIR-IHBT), Palampur, visited the village from October 13–15 to strengthen agrotechnological interventions in floriculture and support rural livelihoods.
During the visit, the scientific team conducted a comprehensive training program on dry flower technology and value-addition, equipping over 30 local women with hands-on skills in flower dehydration, preservation, and crafting innovative commercial products. The training aims to transform local floral resources into independent, sustainable revenue streams for women entrepreneurs.
In addition, the experts reviewed ongoing field trials of low-cost marigold cultivation initiated by CSIR-IHBT. Farmers received practical guidance on pest management, optimal harvesting, and post-harvest handling to improve flower quality and reduce yield losses.
Commending the initiative, Dr. Sudesh Kumar Yadav, Director, CSIR-IHBT, emphasized the institute’s commitment to technology transfer and women’s empowerment. He urged the scientific team to continue close engagement with the community, ensuring that interventions are tailored to local needs and contribute to long-term livelihood generation.
This effort marks a significant step in linking science, innovation, and rural entrepreneurship, turning petals into profits for the women of Janakpur.
