Police have arrested a woman in connection with the suspicious d*eath of a youth in Golti village under Sarol Gram Panchayat, Chamba district. The deceased has been identified as Anil Kumar, a resident of Salvi village in Churah, who had been living in Golti with a woman in a rented room.
According to initial information, the woman, Ritu Kumari, lived in the rented house with her two children. She told police that Anil Kumar came to her room shortly before the incident, asked her to prepare Maggi noodles, and requested that she put her six‑year‑old daughter to sleep in another room. When she returned, she allegedly found Anil hanging from a noose. She claimed she tried to rescue him but could not untie the tightly knotted rope.
Police reached the spot after being informed, took possession of the body, and began investigation. Reports suggest that Anil Kumar and Ritu Kumari had been in a live‑in relationship for nearly four years, a fact known to her estranged husband.
SP Chamba Vijay Kumar Saklani confirmed the incident, stating that the body has been sent for post‑mortem and the woman has been taken into custody. “The matter is being investigated from all angles. The exact cause of death will be clear only after the post‑mortem report and detailed police inquiry,” he said.
