Under the CSIR Smart Village Mission, experts from the CSIR–Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology (CSIR-IHBT), Palampur, visited Janakpur village from October 15–17 to introduce sustainable nutritional solutions aimed at combating malnutrition and strengthening public health.

A comprehensive health camp was organized at the Government Middle School in Janakpur in collaboration with the Department of Health and Family Welfare and ICDS Raisen district. The team surveyed and mapped health indices of vulnerable groups, including Anganwadi children, adolescent girls, and pregnant and lactating mothers.

To build long-term resilience, the team conducted awareness and training sessions on fortified food technologies tailored to local needs. Over 20 local women, Anganwadi workers, and primary health staff actively participated. As an immediate intervention, protein- and micronutrient-fortified food kits were distributed to vulnerable groups.

Local Self-Help Groups (SHGs) welcomed the initiative, showing strong interest in adopting food value-addition technologies to continuously improve community nutrition.

Highlighting the mission’s vision, the Director of CSIR-IHBT stated: “Our intervention in Janakpur under the CSIR Smart Village Mission goes beyond immediate relief. By equipping local Self-Help Groups with sustainable, fortified food technologies, we are empowering the community to take charge of their own long-term health and nutritional security.”
