Advocates and social activists submitted a memorandum to the SDM Kangra on Wednesday, voicing strong concern over the dilapidated condition of the road from the Old SDM office to the Daulatpur Tunnel. The delegation included advocates Saurabh Kaundal, Saurabh Chaudhary, Abhimanyu, Suraj, Manoj Mehta, Surinder Chaudhary, Archana Puri, and social worker Munish Bahdi.
The memorandum highlighted that the road has turned into a stretch of potholes resembling a drain rather than a national highway. Local residents, students, employees, traders, patients, and tourists are facing daily hardships, while the risk of accidents and loss of life remains constant.
The SDM assured the delegation that necessary action would be taken and efforts made to start repair work within seven days. However, advocate Saurabh Kaundal issued a 10‑day ultimatum, warning that if construction or repair work does not begin within the stipulated time, a peaceful hunger strike will be launched on the 11th day in the SDM Court premises.
He criticized the administration for only filling the road with loose soil instead of proper repair, pointing out that the monsoon rains will make the surface slippery and increase accident risks. Kaundal further questioned the government’s claim of making Kangra the “tourism capital” when its key roads resemble drains. He asserted that citizens who regularly pay taxes deserve safe and reliable road facilities.
The delegation demanded that repair and reconstruction work be started on a war footing to provide immediate relief to the public.
