In a vibrant celebration of strength, discipline, and rising confidence among young girls, PM Shri School Ghasanu in Balh block of Mandi district turned into a hub of sporting excellence as it hosted the Khelo India Asmita Women League Silambam Championship.

Around 100 girls from across the region participated in the traditional martial art competition, showcasing remarkable agility, focus, and determination. The rhythmic clashing of sticks and synchronized movements reflected not just skill, but a growing spirit of self-reliance among the participants.

The event was inaugurated by Prof. Anupama Singh, former Vice-Chancellor of Sardar Patel University, Mandi, who lauded the initiative for bringing indigenous sports like Silambam into the mainstream. She emphasized that such platforms are crucial in nurturing both physical fitness and mental resilience among young girls.

The championship was conducted under the supervision of technical officials from the Sports Authority of India, with Mangilal Salvi serving as referee, while Rekha Prajapat and Damini Singh ensured fair play as jury members. Their presence added credibility and professionalism to the event.

The atmosphere remained charged with enthusiasm as participants competed across categories, drawing applause from spectators and fellow competitors alike. Every participant was honoured with medals, recognizing not just victory, but the courage to step forward and compete.

Organisers Santosh Sharma, President of the association, and Treasurer Amar Chand extended a warm welcome to guests and expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for making the event a success.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Singh made a strong case for integrating self-defence training into school and college curricula. “Empowering girls with self-defence skills is not optional anymore—it is essential. It builds confidence and prepares them to face challenges head-on,” she said.

More than just a sporting event, the championship emerged as a powerful statement on women empowerment, highlighting how grassroots initiatives can play a transformative role in shaping a safer and more confident generation of young women.
