In a concerted effort to address the growing concern of substance abuse among youth, the district unit of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) will organise a ‘Run Against Chitta’ marathon in Mandi on April 9, 2026, marking its foundation day with a strong social outreach initiative.
The 5-kilometre awareness run will commence at 6:30 AM from Seri Manch and will pass through prominent locations including Bhimakali Bridge, Victoria Bridge, and Chauhata Bazaar, before concluding at the starting point. Organisers said preparations are in full swing to ensure seamless execution of the event.
District President Anit Jaswal stated that the initiative is designed to serve as a mass awareness campaign rather than merely a competitive sporting event. “The objective is to sensitise young people about the serious consequences of drug abuse and to promote a culture of fitness, discipline, and responsible living,” he said.
To encourage participation, the organisers have announced cash prizes of ₹3,100, ₹2,100, and ₹1,100 for the first, second, and third positions, respectively. Participants finishing between fourth and tenth place will be honoured with medals. All registered participants will also receive certificates and refreshments.
Highlighting the urgency of the issue, NSUI leaders noted that drug abuse, particularly the spread of ‘chitta’, has emerged as a critical social challenge in the region. They emphasised that meaningful change can only be achieved through active community involvement, especially by the youth.
The organisation has appealed to students, young professionals, and citizens across Mandi to participate in large numbers and lend their support to the anti-drug movement, reinforcing the message of a healthier and drug-free society.
