A one-day training camp on millets (Shree Ann) processing and value addition was organized in the tribal region of Bharmour with the aim of strengthening the socio-economic status and livelihood opportunities of Scheduled Tribe women. The initiative focused on promoting millets as a means to enhance income and self-reliance among local women associated with self-help groups.
The program was conducted in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Millets Research (IIMR), Rajendranagar, Hyderabad, Telangana. Experts including Dr. Anil Verma and Dr. Satish Kumar from Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Solan, provided valuable insights on millet processing, storage, product development, and marketing.
During the camp, participants were informed that millets are not only highly nutritious but also play a vital role in improving farmers’ income. Local women and farmers actively participated, gaining knowledge about modern techniques and practical approaches to millet-based entrepreneurship.
Organizers emphasized that such training programs create new employment opportunities in rural areas while ensuring nutritional security.
Special guests at the event included Acting Additional District Magistrate Bharmour Vikas Sharma and Dr. Manohar Lal, Horticulture Officer Bharmour, who highlighted the importance of empowering tribal women through sustainable agricultural practices.
