Nurpur Municipal Council held an important meeting this afternoon at the council office under the chairmanship of Council President Ashok Kumar Sharma, also known as Shibu. All councilors were present, and the meeting was considered one of the final sessions of the current council, during which several key development proposals in public interest were approved.
During the meeting, councilors raised issues from their respective wards. Executive Administrative Officer R.S. Verma, who is currently holding additional charge of Nurpur Municipal Council, participated in the discussions. He confirmed that the proposals related to development works have been granted administrative approval.
Verma stated that the government has consistently provided financial assistance to the council for development projects, leading to improvements in the city’s infrastructure and beautification. He assured that shortcomings in the cleanliness drive would soon be addressed. He further emphasized that all proposals passed by the councilors have been sanctioned for implementation, praising the developmental efforts made over the past five years.
Council President Sharma highlighted that problems from all wards were taken seriously. He acknowledged the contributions of Kangra-Chamba MP Dr. Rajiv Bhardwaj and BJP MLA Ranbir Singh Nikka, whose MP and MLA funds facilitated several projects, including road modernization and lane repairs.
The council unanimously expressed gratitude to both leaders. A major proposal of ₹50 lakh from the MP fund for the beautification of the cremation ground and road construction was formally passed. Dr. Bhardwaj has been informed and assured full support in resolving local issues.
Sharma also announced that under the Tied Grant Scheme of the Union Ministry of Urban Development, all lanes in the council area will be developed, covering roads, drains, and related works. Repairs of dilapidated public toilets and drains will begin soon, with six toilets currently reported to be in poor condition.
Additionally, the council approved the beautification of the upper floor of the community building and decided to establish a reading room in the premises, at the site of the former Officers’ Club. The club was originally built with MP funds by late Kangra-Chamba MP Sat Mahajan, who had also provided funds for cremation ground beautification and donated a hearse vehicle, still serving the city today.
