The accident occurred in the early hours between 2 and 3 am as the group was returning after celebrating a birthday and New Year in Kasol. The police said the car first rammed into a parapet near Bhootnath Temple and then crashed into the rear of a truck parked along the roadside, leading to the fatal mishap.
All four occupants of the car were residents of Kullu. The deceased man has been identified as Satpal, a native of Kullu, while the identities of the two women are being ascertained. The injured woman was initially taken for treatment and later referred to Nerchowk Medical College and Hospital in Mandi due to the seriousness of her injuries.
According to preliminary information, December 31 was Satpal’s birthday and he had travelled to Kasol with three female friends to celebrate the occasion along with New Year festivities. While returning home, the vehicle met with the accident under circumstances that are now under investigation.
With the help of locals, police teams managed to pull all four victims out of the mangled vehicle after considerable effort. Satpal was known to be a tattoo artist and ran a shop in Kullu’s Akhara Bazaar.
