Dharamshala: RS Bali, Chairman of the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC), on Monday highlighted his family’s business legacy while addressing a press conference at Hotel Dhauladhar here, clarifying financial and property-related controversies.
Bali traced his family’s entrepreneurial roots back to the 1980s, saying, “Before my father entered politics, he had established a successful utensil brand, Ruchi Cooker and it was known country wide”.
“Today, the same premises operate as a hospital under a top brand. We also owned a small market in Kangra town and a Raj hotel, where mass lunch events, or Dham, were organized during my father’s election victories in 1998” he added.
He explained his own role in the family business, adding, “When I joined, I rented out most of our properties to major brands. I am a second-generation businessman. After my father GS Bali passed away, I chose to enter politics. I could have continued in business, but this was my decision.”
Bali also addressed recent controversy surrounding the family’s purchase of a hotel. “I only helped a distressed family who had advertised their property. My family took a loan of ₹18 crore for the purchase, and I have all relevant bank documents to substantiate this transaction,” he said, emphasizing transparency.
On his financial standing, Bali said, “I am one of the highest taxpayers in the state, depositing ₹1.75 crore annually, including nearly ₹50 lakh in rental income. Since I am in politics now, it is my duty to clarify everything to the people of Himachal Pradesh—I have nothing to hide.”
Bali further announced legal action against defamation targeting his family, stating, “Some individuals have defamed my wife and sister. I will move to the court to address these false allegations.”
Concluding the press conference, Bali reaffirmed his commitment to Himachal Pradesh, saying his focus remains on developing the state’s tourism sector while upholding transparency and ethical conduct.
