On the occasion of Himachal Pradesh University’s 57th Foundation Day, the Himachal Pradesh University Teachers’ Welfare Association (HAPPUTWA) and Himachal Government College Teachers’ Association (HGCTA) extended heartfelt greetings to all teachers, students, researchers, staff, and alumni.
The associations expressed confidence that the university will continue to achieve new milestones in higher education, research, innovation, and social responsibility, further strengthening its national reputation.
In a joint press release, HAPPUTWA President Dr. Nitin Vyas, General Secretary Dr. Ankush Bhardwaj, HGCTA Vice President Dr. Nikhil Sarta, and General Secretary Dr. Sanjay Kangon highlighted the university’s role as a hub of intellectual, cultural, and social consciousness. Over the past 57 years, it has produced thousands of graduates who have excelled in administration, judiciary, education, science, politics, literature, tourism, industry, and international institutions.
This year’s Foundation Day holds special significance as Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Thakur, himself an alumnus of the university, will inaugurate the celebrations as the chief guest. The associations noted that it is a matter of pride that a former student now leads the state as its Chief Minister, inspiring the entire university community.
While celebrating, the teacher leaders also emphasized the need for urgent decisions in higher education. They urged the Chief Minister to announce the restoration of Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) promotions, which have been stalled for years due to government notifications. Thousands of eligible teachers across universities and government colleges remain deprived of timely promotions, affecting morale, academic progress, and research output.
They stressed that CAS is not merely about salary increments but recognition of academic contributions, publications, innovation, mentorship, and institutional development. Delays in promotions impact research collaborations, quality rankings, and the overall competitiveness of higher education in the state.
The associations pointed out that most states follow University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines and conduct CAS promotions regularly, while Himachal Pradesh’s freeze has left thousands of teachers disadvantaged.
They appealed to the Chief Minister to make a historic announcement on this Foundation Day, restoring CAS promotions and giving justice to teachers. Such a decision, they said, would energize the higher education system, strengthen academic environments, and boost morale across universities and colleges.
Concluding their statement, both associations once again extended warm wishes on the university’s Foundation Day, hoping for continued academic excellence and a bright future for students.
