Dharamshala — Associate Professor Dr. Naresh Kumar Sharma of the English Department at Government College Dharamshala has been conferred the Himachal Pradesh State Award for Excellence in Higher Education (2025). The prestigious honour was presented by Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Teacher’s Day, September 5, in recognition of Dr. Sharma’s outstanding contributions to the field of education.
With a distinguished career spanning 35 years, Dr. Sharma has mentored over 5,000 students into government service and guided more than 30 scholars to earn their M.Phil. degrees. His academic portfolio includes 15 research papers published in international journals and 12 presentations at national and global conferences. He has also delivered over 400 lectures as a resource person and was recommended by the Education Secretary of Himachal Pradesh for collaboration with the British Council, UK.
Dr. Sharma has served in multiple government colleges across the state, leaving a lasting impact on thousands of students through his dedication and mentorship. His efforts have not only shaped individual careers but also elevated the academic stature of the institutions he served.
On Monday, the faculty and staff of Government College Dharamshala celebrated his achievement with a ceremonial welcome featuring traditional drums and music. Principal Prof. Rakesh Pathania praised Dr. Sharma as a “disciplined and punctual educator whose commitment has transformed lives and enhanced the college’s academic reputation.”
Students and colleagues echoed the sentiment, calling the award a moment of pride for the entire academic community.
