As part of an experiential learning initiative, students of the Department of Law at the Central University of Himachal Pradesh (CUHP) visited the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Kangra at Dharamshala.
During the educational visit, the students observed live proceedings of the Commission and gained practical exposure to the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, the complaint-filing process, and the mechanisms of dispute resolution. The experience enabled them to connect classroom learning with real-world judicial and quasi-judicial practices, while deepening their understanding of consumer rights, access to justice, and the social role of law.
The students interacted with Commission President Himanshu Mishra, Member Narayan Thakur, and Member Aarti Sood, who shared valuable insights into the functioning of the Commission and various aspects of consumer protection.
Senior Advocate and President of the Kangra District Bar Association Ankur Soni, Senior Advocate Vinay Sharma, Dean Prof. (Dr.) Surya Rashmi Rawat, Head of Department Dr. Kuldeep Chand, Dr. Girijanand, and Ms. Kalyani Acharya were also present.
Dean Prof. (Dr.) Surya Rashmi Rawat expressed gratitude to the Commission for providing students with a meaningful practical learning experience. Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) S.P. Bansal congratulated the Department of Law for the initiative, noting that such programs strengthen the University’s engagement with society while promoting legal awareness and access to justice.
