Residents living around the petrol pump near Sheela Chowk have raised concerns over what they describe as a growing late-night nuisance in the area, particularly between midnight and 4 a.m.

According to residents, groups of people allegedly under the influence of alcohol gather around the area during these hours. They claim that loud shouting, whistling, dancing and screaming have become a recurring feature, disturbing families living nearby.

The problem, residents say, is no longer limited to noise. Some have alleged incidents of damaged gates, property damage and other acts of nuisance, raising concerns over the safety of people living in the locality.

Parents are particularly worried about children whose sleep and studies are affected, while elderly residents say repeated disturbance during the night is becoming increasingly difficult to cope with.

Residents have also questioned the level of police presence in the area during the late-night hours. They believe regular patrolling between midnight and early morning could help deter such activity and prevent the situation from turning into a more serious law-and-order issue.

The residents are now preparing to approach the police and district administration in writing. Among their demands are regular night patrolling, installation or expansion of CCTV surveillance and verification of complaints regarding alleged property damage and public nuisance.

The issue deserves attention not simply because of the disturbance being reported, but because of the larger question of public safety in a busy part of Dharamshala.

At the same time, the allegations made by residents need to be properly verified by the police and administration. Any action should follow an objective assessment of what is happening at the spot during the reported late-night hours.

For the residents, however, the concern is immediate. They want the authorities to ensure that a place close to their homes does not become a regular gathering point for activities that disturb the neighbourhood.

The question now is whether the police and district administration will investigate the complaints and put in place adequate measures to restore peace in the area.
