DHARAMSHALA: The Congress-led government in Himachal Pradesh is set to celebrate its one-year anniversary in office with a grand program in Dharamshala on December 11. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced that senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra would be participating in the event.
The Chief Minister plans to travel to Delhi within the next few days to extend formal invitations to both leaders.
The decision to hold the programme in Dharamshala was confirmed during a legislature party meeting on Sunday, despite earlier speculations about Chambi Maidan in Shahpur being the venue.
Chief Minister Sukhu expressed his gratitude to party workers who reached his official residence Oak Over in Shimla on Sunday on the occasion of appointment of Shimla district (rural) president Yashwant Chhajta as HIMUDA vice-chairman.
Sukhu addressed the workers, highlighting the recent success of the Congress in the Dharamshala Municipal Corporation elections where the party secured victory in the mayor’s race. He further outlined the party’s strategy for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, expressing confidence in defeating the BJP with a robust plan.
“The Congress and government systems are undergoing a period of change and many changes will be witnessed in the coming times. This systemic transformation will accelerate the pace of development in Himachal Pradesh, ultimately benefiting the people. Workers who raise the party flag will be duly respected in the government,” he said.
Providing an overview of the government’s achievements, Chief Minister Sukhu mentioned that three of the 10 poll guarantees promised by the state government had already been fulfilled.
The implementation of the old pension scheme, the initiation of the first phase of the Rs 680 crore Rajiv Gandhi Self-Employment Startup Scheme, and the comprehensive reform in education, making English compulsory in all government schools from the next academic session, were highlighted as notable accomplishments.
