Shimla: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather advisory for Himachal Pradesh, predicting unsettled weather conditions for the next four days due to an active western disturbance.
According to the Shimla Meteorological Centre, light rainfall is expected in the high and mid-hill regions of the state from April 24 to 27, with chances of light snowfall on higher peaks.
Despite the forecast, clear skies were observed in Shimla and surrounding areas on April 24. The weather is expected to remain dry across the state on April 28 and 29, before another spell of rainfall possibly returns on April 30.
No major temperature shift expected
Meteorologists do not foresee any significant changes in the minimum or maximum temperatures over the next five days across the state.
Regions including Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti, Mandi and Shimla are likely to receive occasional showers during this period.
Meanwhile, light snowfall may continue at higher altitudes, adding to the region’s scenic charm but also prompting caution for travellers and locals.
The minimum temperatures recorded across various locations today were: Shimla (15.5°C), Keylong (2.7°C), Kalpa (6°C), Manali (9.7°C), Dharamshala (16.1°C) and Paonta Sahib (23°C).
Pre-monsoon rainfall deficit hits 32%
The state has recorded a 32% rainfall deficit in the pre-monsoon season from March 1 to April 24, with only 112.7 mm of rain against the normal of 165 mm.
Districts like Lahaul-Spiti (-48%), Chamba (-46%), Una (-47%), and Kinnaur (-35%) have been hit hardest by the shortfall. Only Mandi (+7%) and Kullu (+1%) have recorded rainfall slightly above the seasonal average.
This shortfall is a concern for agriculture and water resources in the region, especially ahead of the summer season.
