Himachal on high alert after Pahalgam terror attack, police tighten security at tourist places


Shimla: Following the deadly terror attack on tourists at Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, the Himachal Pradesh government has declared a statewide high alert, intensifying security along border districts, particularly Chamba and Kangra, as well as major tourist destinations.


Orders have been issued to enhance surveillance, increase vehicle checking at state entry points and deploy anti-sabotage and Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) in sensitive zones.


The Police Headquarters has instructed all Superintendents of Police to review emergency response plans, enhance border patrolling and maintain extra vigilance at tourist spots, religious places and crowded areas.


Special attention is being given to monitoring migrant workers and unidentified individuals, ensuring no threat goes unnoticed.

Markets shut in protest; public condolences pour in

In response to the attack, markets remained closed for two hours in Mandi, Sundernagar, Ghumarwin, Shimla, Chamba and several other regions of Himachal Pradesh as citizens expressed solidarity with the victims.


Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu condemned the attack, stating, “The entire nation is grieving. Himachal stands with the bereaved families. This is a time for unity.”
He confirmed that the Home Ministry is investigating the lapse and that border security with J&K has been heightened.


Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri denounced the attack as “inhuman and an assault on the values of civil society,” urging the strongest possible action against the perpetrators.


Congress state president Pratibha Singh expressed deep sorrow over the loss of innocent lives, calling the incident a “cowardly act meant to disrupt peace” and demanded that no terrorist or separatist involved should be spared.

Police appeal for vigilance, rumour control

In an advisory, the Himachal Pradesh Police urged the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activity or objects immediately by dialling emergency number 112.


Authorities emphasized avoiding rumors and misinformation, highlighting the importance of public participation in maintaining peace and security.
