Dharamshala: A British tourist met with an accident during a trek in the popular trekking destination of Triund near Dharamshala in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh.

The British national, Kiran Edward, was trekking with his female companion when he suddenly lost his balance and fell into a 20-metre-deep gorge. His companion immediately alerted the local administration, prompting a swift rescue operation.

A team from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), led by DSP Sunil Rana, reached the site and successfully rescued Edward. He was initially given first aid in Dharamshala but, due to severe head injuries, was later referred to Tanda Medical College for further treatment.

Triund remains a favourite trekking destination, attracting hundreds of domestic and international tourists each year. However, in recent months, the number of accidents in the area has been on the rise.

The authorities have been continuously advising trekkers to follow safety guidelines and undertake the trek under the supervision of experienced guides to prevent such incidents.

Kangra SSP Shalini Agnihotri expressed concern over the increasing accidents in Triund. She urged tourists to avoid trekking without a guide and to strictly adhere to safety regulations.
She emphasised the need to consider weather conditions and risky trails before embarking on a trek, recommending the assistance of trained guides for a safer experience.
With adventure tourism gaining popularity in Himachal Pradesh, the administration continues to remind visitors that caution and preparedness were key to ensuring a safe and enjoyable trek.
