BJP MLA Jamwal slams Sukhu govt for hiking cooking oil prices in festival season
Mandi: BJP chief spokesperson and Sundernagar MLA Rakesh Jamwal has accused the Himachal Pradesh Congress government of exploiting the festive season by imposing higher prices on essential commodities, thereby increasing the financial burden on the public.
Jamwal alleged that the government’s actions were part of a pattern of policies that imposed unfair taxes and price hikes, particularly during Hindu festivals.
“Whenever Hindu festivals are round the corner, the Congress government uses the opportunity to raise prices on essential items like mustard oil and refined oil. This time, mustard oil prices have surged by Rs 25 and refined oil by Rs 10. These unnecessary hikes reflect the Congress government’s anti-people policies,” he said.

He further alleged that the government was deliberately overshadowing the festive spirit with rising prices, causing additional financial strain on families during a time meant for celebration. He said the administration had failed to safeguard public interests, forcing the common people to bear the brunt of inflation.
Adding to his criticism, Jamwal strongly condemned the state government’s decision to abolish 51 technical posts in the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board. He characterised the move as part of a broader trend of anti-employee policies that are pushing the state’s youth and skilled professionals into despair.

Jamwal stated, “On the one hand, the government promises to create 500,000 jobs, while on the other, it’s removing positions and neglecting the technical expertise our state needs. After dismissing COVID warriors, this is yet another deeply unpopular decision that harms the public and the workforce.”
The cuts in the electricity board jobs have already resulted in a significant impact. Employees and engineers have adopted a strict “work-to-rule” stance, meaning power outages that occur after dark are not being addressed until the next day.
Jamwal believes this situation highlights the government’s incompetence and insensitivity, leaving the public to suffer the consequences of poor governance.
