Shubham Dhiman, a 26-year-old Army soldier from Durana village of Dhol panchayat in Jawali Assembly constituency, was martyred in line of duty in Leh.
Shubham, son of late Rumal Singh, served in the 14 Dogra Regiment and was stationed in Leh. He lost his life on Friday evening when his vehicle met with an accident while on duty.
Yet to be married, Shubham is survived by his mother Santosh Devi, aged 53, and his elder brother Pankaj Dhiman who works in a private firm in Lucknow. The family has a proud history of defence service as Shubham’s father too retired from the Army. He had passed away only a year and a half ago.
Shubham had returned to work from leave only about 50 days ago. Captain Satish Dhiman and Subedar Major (retired) Joginder Dhiman, uncles of the deceased, said the Army informed them about the accident on Friday night.
The confirmation of Shubham’s martyrdom was given on Saturday morning. The body of the fallen soldier is expected to reach the village by 2 pm on Sunday. A pall of gloom descended in his native village and nearby areas as the news of Shubham’s demise broke.
