File on appointment of 1,161 Himachal JBT teachers ‘pending with CM’ for approval

The file concerning the appointment of Junior Basic Training (JBT) teachers in government schools of Himachal Pradesh has been forwarded to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu for approval.

The process is learnt to be facing challenges regarding the allocation of stations for the newly appointed teachers, who were selected on batchwise basis. To address these issues, the schools initially assigned to 1,161 new teachers have been revised, and the updated list now awaits the Chief Minister’s green signal.

The delay stems from the planned merger of approximately 700 schools, each with a student strength of five or less, across the state. Some districts had already released the lists of selected teachers, inadvertently assigning them to schools slated for merger due to low student strength.

This prompted the Education Department to halt the announcement of results for batchwise recruitments in other districts until a new plan could be devised.

Education Department officials explained that the new list was created after carefully reviewing the student registration numbers and current teacher assignments at each school.

This thorough reassessment ensured that the newly selected teachers would be allocated to appropriate schools that are not under consideration for merging.

In addition to these appointments, the Education Department is also focused on staffing the Chief Minister Centre of Excellence Schools. It remains undecided whether these prestigious institutions will receive new JBT teachers or if the current senior teachers will be reassigned.

This initiative is part of the broader efforts by the Himachal Pradesh government to streamline and improve the quality of education across the state, said an official.
