Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu or his Congress government has preferred not to criticise or comment on the Kangana slap episode even as his PWD Minister was quick to decry the incident.
Former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur too expressed concern over the incident that happened with the Bollywood actor-turned-MP at the Chandigarh airport on Thursday. He said this was a “very serious matter”.
Kangana Ranaut, newly elected MP from the Mandi Lok Sabha constituency in Himachal Pradesh, was allegedly slapped by a woman CISF constable, Kulwinder Kaur, at the airport. Kulwinder, who has been suspended, alleged that she was upset with a statement given by Kangana during the 2022-21 farm agitation that elderly women were participating in the dharna at the Haryana-Delhi border for a mere Rs 100.
The CISF constable had claimed that her mother too was among the participants in the agitation.
The slap episode is being widely debated on the social media. Questions are being raised as to what action did the Punjab government take and how was the Himachal government reacting.
It is being said that after taking oath, Kangana’s security would be tightened, a process in which the Himachal police too may be involved.
Thousands of people have come out in Kangana’s support on various social media platforms. “Why is the state government silent? There has not even been an official condemnation from the state government,” said several users.
Kangana had posted a video after the incident saying she was going through a security check at the airport to go from Chandigarh to Delhi when the woman constable deployed for security “said a lot to her and put her hand on my face”. The actor alleged this shows there was a possibility of terrorism and extremism flourishing in Punjab. Kangana even said this incident was a matter of serious concern.
