Himachal weather: More snow, rain expected in coming days as Met dept issues alert

Himachal Pradesh is experiencing a severe cold wave after recent heavy snowfall, with temperatures plummeting across various regions.
The Meteorological Department in Shimla has predicted further rain and snowfall in the coming days, with the possibility of more snow in the high and mid-hill areas of the state.
According to the department’s forecast, snowfall is expected in the higher and mid-hill regions of Himachal Pradesh on December 27 and 28, while lower and plains areas are likely to experience rainfall.

Alert for rain, snow issued from Dec 27-29

A warning for rain and snowfall has also been issued for December 29, especially in the state’s higher and mid-hill areas. However, the weather is expected to remain clear on other days.
The Meteorological Department has also issued a cold wave warning for the lower and plains regions of Himachal Pradesh.
Areas like Una, Hamirpur, Sundernagar and Chamba are currently experiencing intense cold, while dense fog has covered parts of Bilaspur and Mandi districts. According to the department’s data, Koksar in Lahaul-Spiti saw the heaviest snowfall, recording 5.7 cm.
Other areas that witnessed snowfall include Shilaro (5.0 cm), Khadrala (5.0 cm), Pooh (2.0 cm), Kalpa (1.8 cm), Sangla (1.2 cm), Keylong (1.0 cm), Gondla (1.0 cm), and Jot (1.0 cm).

Sub-zero temperatures across eight cities

In terms of minimum temperatures, eight cities in Himachal Pradesh have recorded sub-zero temperatures. The coldest temperature was recorded in Tabo at -10.6°C.
Other areas with freezing temperatures include Kukumseri (-8.2°C), Samdo (-6.9°C), Kalpa (-4.0°C), Narkanda (-2.1°C), Reckong Peo (-0.9°C), Bharmour (-0.7°C), and Manali (-0.3°C).

Temperature records in major cities

In Shimla, the minimum temperature was recorded at 2.0°C, while other areas saw varying temperatures: Sundernagar (3.1°C), Bhuntar (1.1°C), Dharamshala (5.2°C), Una (2.8°C), Nahan (7.1°C), Palampur (2.4°C), Kangra (4.8°C), Mandi (5.5°C), Bilaspur (5.1°C), Hamirpur and Chamba (3.2°C), Jubberhatti (4.6°C), Kufri (0.1°C), Seobagh (0.3°C), Dhaulakuan (6.2°C), Berthin (2.3°C), Sarahan (0.3°C) and Bajora (1.7°C).
