Shimla: The higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh, including Lahaul-Spiti, have started receiving snowfall.
Light snow was reported at the north and south portals of the Rohtang Tunnel at 8 am on Saturday (February 15, 2025). The Meteorological Department has predicted light snowfall in the higher regions of Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur and Chamba.
According to the latest weather bulletin, other parts of the state may witness light rainfall today. In Shimla, the sky remained overcast since morning, with possibilities of light rain accompanied by thunderstorms.
Cold wave intensifies in plains
The cold wave has intensified in the plains of Himachal Pradesh, making the lower regions colder than Shimla for the past two days.
While Shimla’s minimum temperature remains above normal, districts like Una, Hamirpur and Bilaspur have recorded a significant drop in nighttime temperatures.
The Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow alert for cold wave conditions in these districts, warning residents of potential difficulties, especially during nighttime and early morning hours.
Another western disturbance to get active from Feb 19
The weather is expected to remain clear across Himachal Pradesh from February 16 to 18. However, another western disturbance is likely to become active on February 19, bringing fresh rain and snowfall. The heaviest precipitation is expected on February 20.
This winter season, Himachal Pradesh has experienced 77% less precipitation than normal, according to the Meteorological Department. From January 1 to February 13, the state usually receives 130.3 mm of rain, but this year, it has recorded only 29.6 mm, highlighting a significant deficit.
