Shimla:
Thirteen office-bearers of the Himachal Pradesh Youth Congress have been suspended with immediate effect for remaining absent from the ‘Vote Chori’ rally organised by the Congress at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on November 1, following a call by senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

The action, taken by the Indian Youth Congress leadership, covers two state vice-presidents, eight general secretaries and three secretaries. Their suspension will remain in force until further orders.

An official order dated November 2, 2026, was issued by Aryan Chauhan, General Secretary (Organisation), Himachal Pradesh Youth Congress. The order stated that the absence of the office-bearers from the Delhi programme had been viewed seriously, underlining the organisation’s emphasis on discipline and participation in key party activities.

Those suspended include state vice-presidents Amala Kashyap and Anu Kumari Maratha.

The eight general secretaries facing action are Sahil Thakur, Ajay Thakur, Ravinder Rao, Sachin Thakur, Manoj Kumar, Pooja Thakur, Tajinder Kumar and Ankur Sharma. The three suspended secretaries are Yashpal, Arjun Singh and Baldev Sintian.

Copies of the suspension order have been sent to Shesh Narayan Ojha, General Secretary of the Indian Youth Congress and Himachal Pradesh in-charge, and Jyotish HM, IYC Secretary and co-in-charge. State Youth Congress president Chhattar Singh Thakur and working president Akhil Agnihotri have also been informed.

The disciplinary action comes amid similar developments in neighbouring Haryana, where 10 Youth Congress functionaries were suspended on November 1 for allegedly failing to attend the same ‘Vote Chori’ rally.

This is not the first instance of disciplinary action within the Himachal Pradesh Youth Congress this year. In September, 15 office-bearers from Kangra district, including 10 Assembly constituency presidents and five block presidents, were suspended for remaining absent from a state executive meeting and allegedly failing to participate actively in organisational activities.

The latest suspensions indicate a tougher approach by the Youth Congress leadership towards organisational discipline, particularly participation in programmes called by the party’s central leadership. No reaction from the suspended office-bearers was immediately available.
