Himachal Pradesh Agriculture Minister Chander Kumar has strongly condemned the alleged conspiracy by the opposition BJP to destabilise a democratically elected government, describing it as a grave blow to the principles of democracy.
“It is shameful how an elected government was targeted and efforts were made to bring it down through a well-orchestrated plot. However, the BJP’s plans have failed miserably,” said the Congress MLA from Jawali in Kangra district.
Highlighting the Congress’ contributions to the nation, Kumar asserted, “The Right to Food, Right to Education, Right to Employment and Right to Information are monumental achievements of the Congress. Today, the Modi government is merely rebranding these policies and claiming credit. The truth is the BJP has no original contribution to the welfare of this nation.”
Accuses PM Modi of betraying ‘second home’ Himachal
Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kumar said, “Modi once called Himachal Pradesh his second home. Today, we are here in Bilaspur, which is the home town of BJP president JP Nadda and the Lok Sabha constituency of five-term MP Anurag Thakur. Yet, I challenge them to show what they have done for Bilaspur or the state. Where is the ‘big financial package’ Modi promised? Not a single penny has come. Even the disaster relief funds were denied to Himachal Pradesh. The BJP’s promises are nothing but hollow words.”
Targets Centre for skyrocketing prices of essential goods
Kumar lambasted the Modi government for its economic policies, particularly the skyrocketing prices of essential goods. “An LPG cylinder now costs Rs 1,100, which is a direct blow to the women for whom these schemes were initially introduced. The Modi government has burdened the poor while protecting the interests of the rich. They claim to stand with the common man, but their actions reveal otherwise,” he said.
Referring to the Agniveer scheme, he said, “The BJP government has destroyed the dreams of millions of youth. Earlier, training camps for the Army, Navy and Air Force were filled with young men aspiring to serve the nation. Today, those fields lie empty, except for stray dogs, thanks to the flawed Agniveer scheme. This government has crushed opportunities for the youth while pretending to empower them.”
Slams BJP for prioritising Hindu-Muslim divide
Kumar accused the Modi government of prioritising divisive politics over national progress. “Instead of focusing on development, the BJP leaders have made the Hindu-Muslim divide their central agenda. India was built on the foundation of ‘Sarv Dharma Sambhav’ (respect for all religions). Today, that very foundation is being attacked by the BJP’s divisive rhetoric.”
He further criticised Modi’s earlier remarks on the rupee during the UPA era. “Modi once mocked the rupee, saying it was as old as Manmohan Singh. Today, the dollar has outpaced Modi’s own age, yet he remains silent. The BJP’s leadership thrives on misleading the public with grand slogans while the country’s economy suffers.”
Kumar emphasised the stark difference between past and present leadership. “Leaders like Nehru, Gandhi, Parmar, Ram Lal and Virbhadra Singh built this nation with vision and integrity. Today, BJP’s leaders, including Modi, thrive on propaganda and deception. The BJP’s government has pushed the country into economic distress, social unrest, and political chaos,” he said.
Expresses concern over media silence
Kumar expressed concern over the media’s role in shielding the Modi government from accountability. “The media has been captured by the rich and powerful. It no longer speaks for the poor or questions the government’s failures. This silence allows the BJP to continue misleading the nation unchecked,” he stated.
In his concluding remarks, Kumar urged the people to see through the BJP’s lies and demand accountability. “The Modi government has made lofty promises but delivered nothing. It’s time to bring back leadership that truly serves the people and rebuild the India envisioned by our founding leaders.”
