Dharamshala: The opposition BJP organised a massive ‘Jan Akrosh Rally’ at Tapovan in Dharamshala on Wednesday, protesting the alleged anti-people policies of the Congress government led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu in Himachal Pradesh.
The rally was marked by high tensions between BJP workers and the police, resulting in a brief scuffle as the police set up barricades to block the protesters from marching towards the Assembly.

Protest at Zorawar Stadium

The BJP workers gathered at Zorawar Stadium in Tapovan, where they raised their voice against the state government’s policies, accusing the Congress of corruption and mismanagement.
After the protest, the workers attempted to march towards the Vidhan Sabha, but the police intervened by erecting barricades. The situation escalated when BJP workers tried to breach the barricades, though the police managed to prevent further movement.
The rally was led by former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, who criticized the current Congress administration. He accused the government of failing to deliver on its promises, stating that the public was frustrated with the rising cost of living and the unfulfilled guarantees made by Congress during their campaign. “People are tired of the Congress government’s unkept promises. They decided to come out and express their anger,” said Jai Ram, addressing the crowd.

Jai Ram also took aim at Chief Minister Sukhu, questioning what tangible development had occurred in Kangra over the past two years. He pointed out the delay in the release of Rs 20 crore meant for the establishment of Kangra’s Central University and highlighted that funds for the International Convention Centre, approved during the BJP’s tenure, had been misappropriated.
“The Chief Minister visits Kangra but does nothing for the people here. It’s time he answers to the people,” Thakur remarked.
Jai Ram reminded the gathering that the Congress had promised 1 lakh government jobs for unemployed youth every year and Rs 1,500 per month for 22 lakh women, none of which had materialised. “The two years of the Congress rule have been filled with failure. They celebrated their two-year anniversary with extravagance while ignoring the promises made to the people,” said Jai Ram.
BJP state general secretary Trilok Kapoor also echoed similar sentiments, claiming that the Congress government had failed to deliver on any of its election promises. He further criticised the government for burdening the common people with inflation, citing the hike in diesel VAT and the rising cost of pulses at ration depots.
The rally concluded with a call for the Congress government to be held accountable for its lack of progress and its failure to address the concerns of the public. The BJP vowed to continue its protests until the government fulfills its promises and provides relief to the people of Himachal Pradesh.
