Dharamshala: Himachal Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party’s chief spokesperson Rakesh Jamwal has launched a scathing attack on the Congress, accusing the party of deceiving the people of Himachal Pradesh with false promises and now attempting to mislead the voters of Delhi.
Jamwal alleged that Congress leader Alka Lamba, now contesting from Delhi’s Kalkaji constituency, had orchestrated a web of false assurances in Himachal.
The BJP leader alleged that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, instead of addressing his state’s issues, was busy campaigning in Delhi, promoting what Jamwal termed as “a new chapter of deceit in politics”.
In a statement, Jamwal alleged that the people of Himachal were well aware that the Congress government, instead of fulfilling its promises, had pushed the state into a financial crisis. “In just two years, the Sukhu government has burdened Himachal with a debt of Rs 30,000 crore. Former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh’s government had taken Rs 27,000 crore in loans over five years, while the previous Jai Ram Thakur-led BJP government borrowed Rs 23,000 crore in its tenure. However, despite these borrowings, development work continued without disruption. In contrast, the Congress government has been dubbed the ‘lockdown government’ for halting several development projects,” he said.
Accusing the Congress of financial mismanagement and wasteful expenditures, Jamwal claimed that the state treasury was now empty, leaving no funds for developmental activities. He further stated that the Sukhu government had failed on all fronts and was now trying to divert public attention by campaigning for the Congress in Delhi.
The Congress, for its part, has dismissed the allegations levelled by Jamwal as baseless. A senior Himachal Congress leader alleged that the Sukhu government was clearing the financial mess created by the previous BJP government, led by Jai Ram Thakur.
