SHIMLA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, known for incorporating regional elements into his attire during international visits, once again sent a strong cultural and political message by donning a Himachali cap while inaugurating India’s new consulate at Marseille in France alongside French President Emmanuel Macron.
Prime Minister Modi wore a traditional Kullu cap, with a bright red band. The PM also wore the cap as he and Macron paid tributes at the Marseille cemetery to the Indian martyrs and other fallen soldiers killed during the World War I and II.
His Himachali look during his foreign visit is being widely appreciated by people. Not just BJP leaders, but even Himachal Pradesh Congress minister Vikramaditya Singh praised the Prime Minister’s Himachali avatar.
Wore during 2017 Israel visit too
On February 5 when PM Modi went for a holy dip at the Mahakumbh, he also wore a Himachali cap. PM Modi is known for conveying messages through his gestures and attire.
In this context, his appearance in a Himachali look at the Mahakumbh and now in France is also being linked to political symbolism.
In July 2027 as well, PM Modi had worn a Himachali cap when he was on a visit to Israel. The Himachali cap donned by the Prime Minister Narendra in Israel had taken on political colours back home in Himachal Pradesh, which was to witness Assembly elections a few months later.
Political legacy attached to Himachali caps
The PM had then worn the maroon band cap, which is associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) while the green band is linked to the Congress.
Modi’s choice of the maroon-band Himachali cap had set off a wave of excitement within the Himachal BJP, with leaders hailing it as a reflection of his long-standing bond with the hill state.
